moving break
Coming to work at the berry is like a vacation from the home upheaval that doesn't seem to be ending anytime soon. No flights of stairs, no friends freaking out, no financial issues, no furniture to haul.
I heard this song on the way in this morning, and it made me long for the summer vacay days of 6th grade. very soothing.
I know I feel better. I hope it brought a little calm to you, too.

home decor
I have a new apartment!! woo woo! no more roommates! hot damn!!! hotchacha!
I'll be moving in the next week and have a clean slate of four rooms to make my own. this means my fashion distraction is going to be transferred to interior design. I'm a little anxious about this because it's been years since I've had sole control over how my home looks. I want to do it right, but decisions freak me out!
My main concern is giving my grandma style (knick-knacks and brick-a-brack) a cleaner look. Less clutter. More focus on the simple design of a really good pattern and not the busy-ness of several lesser patterns clumped together. So I'll be posting some of my favorite inspirations as I see them. Such as..
A nice way to display trivets from Laura Normandin (found via poppy):

Healthy Boozing Ha
Recent trend of organic cocktails at bars, restaurants and clubs in NY and LA. From what I gather these are mostly organic booze blended with organic fruits and veggies.
These people are crazy. Booze is poison, no matter how you package it, that is why it's so much fun. Even if you stick a cucumber in it.
I'm glad to read that the organic label is pretty meaningless as the distillation process burns off impurities in booze. I'll stick to the cheap-o Stolichnaya.
This 'healthy drink' looks might tasty though. Especially at 10 to 5. Maybe I can get some vitamin D smokes too. YUM!

Suspect

Jo bought this book about gypsy life for me at myopic on our recent visit to Chicago. Makes me wonder about my lineage...here are some common traits the author finds among the gypsies she lives with:
1. Pride: "It is better to die standing up than to live on your knees."
2. Forgetfulness: "Questions of origins, dispertion, memory are not of central importance."
3. Lies!: "Gypsies lie. They lie a lot - more often and more inventively than other people..Still, malice is not intended. On the whole, lying is a cheerful affair. Embellishments are intended to give pleasure. People long to tell you what they imagine you want to hear. They want to amuse you; they want to amuse themselves; they want to show you a good time. This is beyond hospitality. This is art."

They found me out.
Jezebel pulled this choice quote from a NY Times piece about a drug that elliminate your period forever.
In a presentation by Lybrel's maker, Wyeth, to investors and analysts last October, Dr. Ginger D. Constantine, the company's therapeutic director for women's health, laid the groundwork. Citing company-backed studies, she reported that menstruating women feel less effective at work and take more sick days. Not only that, but they don't exercise and they wear dark clothes more often, she said.
I'm proud to say I'm wearing a black skirt today, and nobody's gonna take that OR my period away from me. Suck it, Ginger!

Nu Rave Fat Pants

Thanks to Kate Moss, skinny jeans are out and wide-leg-high-waisted jeans are in. I'm kind of glad pants/jeans never fit me, it's too hard (and expensive) keeping up with trouser trends. This trend isn't all that bad, but there's a fine line between a sophisticated Sophia Loren wide-leg pant and an exaggerated 70s disco meets 90s raver. I don't think I can rock it, but who knows? I could lose 20lbs and wear my old Luscious pants again (after ripping out all the extra pockets).Labels: fashion

My soft spot
My list of crushes is rather long. It includes young, more mature and some individuals who fit in the "if they were still alive" category.
One of my crushes (although I agree that Mos Def is up there in high ranking land...) is a French actor named Romain Duris. C'te guy la pourrait manger des crackers dans mon lit any day!!! Now, I like him bearded but you may prefer clean shaven so...

Oh, and to make things even better, he has a new movie coming out called Dans Paris with the virginal Louis Garrel........... Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Cougar Crush #1
I'm starting a new blog feature: current crushes who can't yet buy beer. in the states.
Who better to start it off than Michael Cera, aka George-Michael Bluth. He was always endearing on Arrested Development, and since I've been watching his super-hilarious internet show, Clark and Michael, my crush was solidified. Now I'm just waiting for Superbad.
I don't know what else to say, except that he's Canadian.

iClub
Apparently this was part of the hoopla on Friday - apple employees lining up and applauding the iPhone buyers as they entered the store. I think it's sweet! Look at the guy in the top right corner - two fisted cheer! I bet it's so easy to drop $600 with this kind of encouragement.
