curses!
Look what I spotted at my local Urban Outfitters yesterday:

Only the ones I saw had cherries on them. quelle surprise!
I'm bummed about it cause now people will think I'm copying them... but at least I'm not pricing them at a 1000% mark-up!

jt candy
Item #1: Like I Love You/White Wedding mash-up
Mashes so smooth, like creamy potatoes.
Item #2: My Love Diplo Remix
Fun with even more pops, bleeps, and blips.
I found both via Idolator.

old fashioned fun
I brought my sewing machine back with me to Chicago after a long, lonely storage at mom's house. Maybe the new year will yeild some fancy new old frocks! I can see myself in some kitchenette pajamas or perhaps an evening kimono. My loungewear could use some classin' up.

More vintage patterns found here.

Marie Laforêt - Мon amour mon ami
The lyrics are so sweet ♥
Toi mon amour, mon ami
Quand je rêve c'est de toi
Mon amour, mon ami
Quand je chante c'est pour toi
Mon amour, mon ami
Je ne peux vivre sans toi
Mon amour, mon ami
Toi mon amour, mon ami
Quand je rêve c'est de toi
Mon amour, mon ami
Quand je chante c'est pour toi
Mon amour, mon ami
Je ne peux vivre sans toi
Mon amour, mon ami
Toi mon amour, mon ami
Quand je rêve c'est de toi
Mon amour, mon ami
Quand je chante c'est pour toi
Mon amour, mon ami
Je ne peux vivre sans toi
Mon amour, mon ami
Et je ne sais pas pourquoi

doop-dee-doo..
I'm bored at work on a Sunday afternoon. It's a good time to catch up on blogs, and Megan's always delivers. Have you seen the squid?! Amazing!
She posted a quiz that I think she lifted from Jennifer. If it's not too geeky for these girls to do it, then I can do it, too! Plus it helped me kill about 30 minutes. Enjoy!
What time do you get up in the mornings?
6:45ish most days.
How many beers until you're drunk?
1.5. I'm super lightweight.
Do you like beer or hard liquor?
why do I have to chose?
Have you ever had a one night stand?
nope.
How do you take your coffee?
with cream, please.
Do you eat breakfast?
always. I eat all meals.
Do you prefer sleeping alone?
no.
Do you smoke cigarettes?
no!
Have you ever burnt your hair?
yep, in the pursuit of beauty. and also in pursuit of childhood pyromania.
Do you sleep with a pillow?
of course. multiple.
What were your habits as a child?
I watched a lot of tv, and I liked to read kid mystery books like Encyclopedia Brown. I also had a tendency to step in ant beds -- a lot of ant beds. and I burned a lot of stuff (see above).
Do you want kids?
yes, yes I do.
Are you an only child?
far from it. I've got 5 siblings.
Do you like road trips?
yes! When do we leave?!
Who are your 6 best friends?
I can't answer this, but my fellow Babycakes certainly make the cut.
Do you brush your teeth in the shower?
nope.
Do you eat leftovers?
you got some?
Do you prefer being single, or in a relationship?
I'll say being in a relationship, but that's because I'm single and the grass is always greener.
Are you in a relationship now?
nope.
Have you ever cheated?
yes, but the lines were awfully blurry. And I've been the other girl loads of times.
Have you ever been cheated on?
yes.
Once a cheater, always a cheater?
no, I don't believe that.
Pajamas or naked?
depends. but always with socks.
What do you take when you have a headache?
eat.
Roughing it or luxury hotel?
luxury!
Beach or pool?
lake.

maybe.
Ever hitchiked?
no. wait... not intentionally, but yes. I have accepted rides from strangers in cars (sorry, mom).
Ever picked up a hitchhiker?
no.
Roses or daisies?
big fat blooming roses. no buds. but I really prefer peonies and mums.
Do you consider yourself conceited?
sometimes.
Is your hair its original color?
oh yeah.
Do you wear makeup?
yes, finally.
Do you eat ranch with your pizza?
what?! crazy talk.
Do you believe in God?
no.
Do you have a crush on anybody right now?
yes.
Do they know it?
I don't think so.
What food could you absolutely never give up?

sometimes.
Are you allergic to anything?
I don't think so. nothing noticable.
Ever had your heart broken?
It's always broke. stupid heart.
Who was the last person to hurt you?
ricky.
Who was the last person you hurt?
ricky. I think.
Do you wear socks to bed?
yep.
How do you feel about breast implants?
unfortunate.
What kind of shampoo do you use?
purple shimmer for gray-haired old ladies.
Have you ever been in love?
yes.
Do you think love is real for young people?
yes.
What song are you listening to right now?
none. I'm at work. But JT's "My Love" is on repeat in my head.

A nostalgic post for Mimi

Fourfour has a nice tribute to the Beales' unique turns of phrase. I should watch Grey Gardens again soon, and maybe the new companion piece, too.
Baby J's Blog
An email from my sister:
Our boy wonder, Jordan, spends most of his time on advanced math – most noted for his contributions to investment theory and econometrics. While not at work, he splits his leisure time between the PGA Tour and serving up aces at the tennis grand slams. His dream is to support his loving parents in a life of luxury. For now though, just a lot of eating and sleeping…

Let me know if you see anything on this site that you might like for a xmas present. I'm seeing this girl at a craft fair tomorrow, and she wants to trade. I can't promise that she'll have these exact items, but if you tell me what you like, then I can find something similar.
Here's some examples of things I would buy for you (mimi, I remember what you said about earrings last night, but I'm still posting some pics):::

Soy Boy

Have you guys heard the kerfuffle over this conservative collumnist's claims that soy is turning our children gay?
Some tasty highlights:
Soy is feminizing, and commonly leads to a decrease in the size of the penis, sexual confusion and homosexuality.
..brace yourself for watching [your daughter] reach menarche as young as seven, robbing her of years of childhood.
Research in 2000 showed that a soy-based diet at any age can lead to a weak thyroid, which commonly produces heart problems and excess fat. Could this explain the dramatic increase in obesity today?
The estrogen-makes-queers theory was disproven in the 80's, with new studies that show higher testosterone levels in homosexuals and bi-sexuals than in heteros.
Boy, some edamame sure would hit the spot right about now. I'm feeling kind of butch today.

MaryJane Holiday Stockings

If I had my sewing machine, I would steal this idea and make each of you one of these babies for Christmas. I'd fill it with bonbons, mini liquor bottles (MANY mini liquor bottles!) and lip gloss.
Obama 2008
I've been saying that it's too soon for Obama to run for the past couple of years. He needs a bit more experience, and I'm afraid he could get squashed with hype-backlash if he made his move too soon. But honestly I can't WAIT until he's president! It's gonna be so awesome!!

The Soundtrack of Our Blog

I tend to forget about the Bubble-Gum Machine these days, but then something will trigger my memory -- usually a mention of an awesome song or band that I didn't know about until the BGM turned me on -- and I kick myself for checking in more often. Every week for over two years now it posts two of the most fun, sugar-filled mp3's you'll every hear, and it gives you a nice little background reading on each song full of context and music trivia for geeks like me. Here's the BGM manifesto:
If it's ever been on K-Tel or Ronco, it's in. If it features hand claps, cow bells, syrupy orchestration, walls of sound, wrecking crews, sha-la-las, toothy teen idols, candy-based metaphors for carnal acts or lyrics about hugging, squeezing and rocking all night long, it's in.
For a couple of weeks back in 2004 I obsessively downloaded every single song on the site, eating up lots of klaus' memory in the process (much to his chargrin -- I don't think he found the songs are delightful as I did). I'm going to go home tonight and play catch up!
Here's one of my favorite finds:
Anita Harris - The Clapping Song
finger puppets are always cute
I found these enjoyable things browsing through whipup today -- fancy, funny finger ladies from Lanita Heidelberg:

Renegade Craft Fair This weekend!
If any of you Canadians are going to be in the Chicagoland area this weekend, you should definitely come to the Renegade Craft Fair, Holiday Version. I'll be there with buttons on!

Trapped in the Clauset
R. Kelly's Trapped in the Closet (watch chapter 1 (of umpteen chapters) here) is one of the bust-a-gut funniest things I've seen in ages. If you have never had the joy, Netflix it immediately (I forgot what the Canadian mail-video service is called..).
This holiday claymation parody of Kelly's opera may still be funny if you're uninitiated, but if you know what I'm talking about I hope this video make you giggle as much as I did.
my buddy
It's a done deal. D-U-N.
The bad news is I think I cracked my truck's radiator last ngiht. The good news is that I was forced to get off my butt, make a decision, and buy a vehicle. So, I got a Versa tonight, and I love it! I know he and I are in a honeymoon stage, but it's oh so sweet. It comes with all my required safety features, plus some extra perks to boot. I got keyless entry y'all!
Here's a pic of my black on black beauty...

first a new cat, then a new car.. best week ever!!

Repeal Day

Today is the anniversary of the U.S. 21st Ammendment, which repealed the 18th Ammendment, which prohibited the sale of alcohol.
Waiterrant is advocating that Dec. 5 be declared a national drinking day to celebrate this cornerstone of Amercian life. I'll be celebrating with a stop by the liquor store after work and then a glass of wine with a veggie burger for dinner.

Conservatives + hepatitis C

There will be no more tattooing in federal prisons — at least officially.
Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day is set to announce shortly that the government will not continue a program that offered tattoos to prisoners.
Tattoo parlours at the six federal prisons across Canada have been sitting idle since a one-year pilot project ended Sept. 30.
The $700,000 project was aimed at reducing the spread of AIDS and hepatitis C by providing safe tattooing using clean needles.

Have you guys seen AV's Old Navy spot yet? I saw it twice yesterday. It's cute, and it made me really happy. I just hope I don't get sick of it like I do with every other heavily rotated Old Navy spot. You can watch the ad and listen to the whole song here.
You can learn how to make the money shirt here.
